Our Patron Saint
ST. MARGARET OF SCOTLAND, feast day is November 16. She married King Malcom Canmore in Scotland at age 24. Margaret, through great influence, rendered him one of the most virtuous kings to have ever occupied the Scottish throne. She added to civilization by encouraging education and religion. St. Margaret made it her constant effort to educate the people and priests of Scotland. With her husband, she founded several churches, notably that of the Holy Trinity at Dunfermline (where she is buried).
St. Margaret passed away on November 16, 1093, four days after the death of her husband. She exclaimed as her last words, “O Lord Jesus Christ, who by thy death hast given life to the world, deliver me from all evil!” St. Margaret was canonized in 1250 and was named patroness of Scotland in 1673.
