By the time you read this, I will have already met with Bishop Johnston to get his advice. Our construction plans counted on continuing growth in order to make loan payments, along with a healthy Building Fund and Fulfilling Our Vision Capital Campaign. Sadly, and understandably, the parish budget is moving in the other direction. I’ve met with the bishop’s financial and construction advisors, our architect, contractor and capital campaign consultant, and the heads of our Finance Council and Building Committee to try to figure possible paths forward. It appears to me that we have three choices:
1. We could continue as we are – paused – waiting to restart the current plan when things improve;
2. We could build a smaller project that would not require borrowing;
3. We could stop where we are because the future after Covid-19 could be very different from what we expected when we made our plans. I should have a verbal response for you at all our weekend Masses.
