Reconciliation

Reconciliation offers a sacred opportunity to reflect, seek forgiveness, and begin again. In this sacrament, God meets us with compassion, offering grace, peace, and a restored relationship with Him.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that “those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church” (CCC 1422). The Catechism also reminds us that “there is no offense, however serious, that the Church cannot forgive” (CCC 982).

No matter how long it has been since one’s last confession, God never ceases to call His children back to Himself.

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen beautifully reflected on the grace of Confession when he said, “Before the sin, Satan convinces us it is of no consequence. After the sin, he convinces us it is unforgivable.” The Sacrament of Reconciliation stands against both lies, revealing the truth of God’s mercy and the freedom found in repentance.

The message of Divine Mercy entrusted to Saint Faustina Kowalska echoes this same hope. In her diary, Jesus told her: “The greater the sinner, the greater the right he has to My mercy” (Diary of Saint Faustina, 723).

Through this sacrament, Christ pours out forgiveness, peace, and grace upon all who come to Him with trust.

Catholics are encouraged to receive the sacrament of reconciliation regularly, especially during Advent and Lent, and whenever conscious of serious sin.

Children preparing for First Holy Communion are also prepared to receive this sacrament so they may more fully participate in the life of the Church and grow in friendship with Christ.
